WELCOME TO HENY AUCTIONS.

Gaited Horses in the Big Horn Basin
In the late 1960’s the Forest Service and Wyoming Game and Fish started using Missouri Fox Trotters. There were a couple of Tennessee Walking Horse breeders also in the Basin at that time. Because of the smooth ride and fast walk, these breeds became very popular in this area.
In the early 1970’s a group of four Missouri Fox Trotters owners started a club which grew to over 60 members in the 1980’s.

At one time we had at least 20 breeders raising foals from two or three to as high as twenty five each year.  At our annual show there was much trading and selling going on. And so we decided to start having a sale in conjunction with the show which proved to be very successful.
Fifty to Seventy Five horses were sold each year. We had many repeat buyers every year from all over the Northwest United States and Canada. Approximately 10 years ago I took over the Big Horn Basin Foxtrotter Association Horse Sale and have run it ever since then. I have lived in Powell Wyoming my whole life. I have been in the auctioneering business for 25 years.

When I took over the sale I changed a few things. I opened up the sale to an All Breed Sale, any gaited horses and mules. This gives people who like gaited animals a much better opportunity for buying or selling. We sell everything from Foxtrotter, Paso Fino, Tennessee Walkers to gaited mules. This also gives people who raise gaited animals an opportunity to promote their breed. Along with the gaited horse and mule sale I also do farm sales, estate sales including household items etc. The 2012 Wyoming Gaited Horse & Mule sale will be the 34th annual sale.
